Crossing the bridge
Jenny came to me with an unusual request: she was challenged to walk unassisted across pedestrian bridges. If she encountered a bridge in a park, for example, she would literally freeze in fear. Only with the proactive encouragement of friends could she bring herself to slowly and anxiously walk across a foot bridge. It was no different when she attempted to get across traffic bridges via the pedestrian lanes. In some cases, she simply could not get across and would pull back. Together we engaged in several EFT sessions to address this fear, which we traced to something deep in her history. Perhaps, as a child, she had a fraught experience on a bridge. Following several profound EFT sessions, Jenny felt progressively better about bridges. Then together we faced up to a nearby park bridge. Jenny walked confidently across. To this day, she is free of her bridge phobia, opening up a small but new dimension to her life.
